TURNERS FALLS — The Fitzpatrick family, the former management team at Jarvis Pools and Spas on Unity Street, recently dove headfirst into a new chapter of their lives by opening their own storefront at 29 Fifth St.

Fitzpatrick Pools, Spas and Services opened for business in early December, and the Fitzpatrick family, made up of Alex, Corey and Walter Fitzpatrick, made the decision to open their own store under their family name in October. Each of them gained experience at Jarvis Pools and Spas for more than a decade, with Corey Fitzpatrick stepping into store management at Jarvis Pools and Spas in 2012.

Although the store is new, the family is offering the same services. Even during the winter months, residents can expect in-person service for their pools, spas or hot tubs, along with products for sale in-store from multiple vendors and online ordering for in-store pick-up. Paper services such as shredding, faxing, copying, and digital transfers and VHS media transfers are also available at the store.

The store will continue to offer its popular UPS and Amazon package drop-off and shipping services. Alex Fitzpatrick explained the store started offering the UPS drop-off service last summer at the Jarvis Pools and Spas site, and the service has followed the Fitzpatrick family through its move to Fifth Street.

“People have been like, ‘This is great. I love having this here,’” Alex Fitzpatrick said of the service. “Even though we were just up the street, they didn’t even know that the UPS thing was offered.”

Now that the store has relocated downtown to a space just off Avenue A and a stone’s throw from Greenfield Savings Bank, Alex and Corey Fitzpatrick have noticed an increase in foot traffic, especially for the UPS service.

Since moving into the storefront in November, the Fitzpatricks have worked with the building owner to clear the space, which used to be a salon, by removing the sinks and reusing some of the shelving that was left behind. The family is looking to take the winter to continue expanding their storefront by adding to the showroom with more products on display. Alex Fitzpatrick said he hopes to expand online services, too, including ordering and delivery of products, as time progresses.

With their new storefront up and running, Corey Fitzpatrick said the response from the community has been positive, with Alex Fitzpatrick noting that people have expressed their gratitude for them staying in Turners Falls.
